    So, it appears that the EU has been planning on migrating to their own payment system, but the effort has been very low-key. This new system signed into existence in Feb 2025 as EuroPA, and the primary payment network replacement is WERO. Hoping this goes better than Monnet.

        @undead

        From what I understand, Wero is exactly the same as the Dutch online payment system iDeal, which I consider the gold standard for internet payment, so I'm glad to see that finally receive broader support.

        Still took 30 years, though. Europe needs to learn to move faster on this stuff.

          I guess I'll go over why I think this is important, again.

          Trump has been attacking the legal frameworks of the EU directly by financially excommunicating a judge of the Hague ICC, and the UN Special Rapporteur from financial systems as "foreign terrorists". For those in the #EU unfamiliar, attacking and discrediting legal frameworks was how he started his attacks on the US legal systems.

          Digital sovereignty is a non-starter without fiscal sovereignty over payment systems.

            @celeduc @undead @pluralistic A cloud with a silver lining. Or in this case, a clod.
