    We knew this was coming, but now the clock is running. From Privacy International:

    "Yesterday the Trump Administration announced a proposed change in policy for travellers to the U.S. It applies to the powers of data collection by the Customs and Border Police (CBP)."

    "If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. They’re also proposing the collection of DNA."

    PI linked to and summarized a Federal Register entry describing the proposed requirements:

    -All visitors must submit ‘their social media from the last 5 years’

    -ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include ‘high value data fields’, ‘when feasible’
    ‘telephone numbers used in the last five years’
    -‘email addresses used in the last ten years’
    -‘family number telephone numbers (sic) used in the last five years’
    -biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
    -business telephone numbers used in the last five years
    -business email addresses used in the last ten years.

    @briankrebs I used to go to the US most years, the last time was about 2018. Visited a senior manager who worked in a block overlooking the Whitehouse. On arriving at work each day she went to the window with middle finger up and shouted Fuck You. Colleagues were not all in agreement at the time...
    I will not go again. Even if the orange despot in imprisoned, now we know a nazi revolution can happen there almost overnight.

        @schrotthaufen @briankrebs
        And that is the point.
        This isn't about immigration or terror threats, it is ALL about economic advantage.

        @Quantillion @briankrebs Well… I’d say it is about terror threats. By the US of A towards anyone who wants to set foot on their soil.

                    @briankrebs Sounds like there is a strong chance this goes through, and likely they will use the illegal immigration narrative as an excuse.

                    Hoping common sense prevails but in these modern days there isn't much of that, no matter which party you vote for, the government continues its agenda.

                      @mkj @briankrebs I thought the post was about installing a spy app on your phone. So if its a burner phone, its not your “real” phone. You only share information you want to share

                        @kimlockhartga @briankrebs

                        It seems there's _always_ something else at play, some other 'plan' underneath and behind whatever it is that's stated at face value, so this makes sense in that context.

                        Being in control isn't one directional, it's about every direction all at once, and when there's a built-in byproduct in some 'new rule' to guarantee even more control, they'll use it, exploit it, and look for another dozen offshoots to cement even more control.

                              @briankrebs thank you for the important information! Edward Snowden opened our eyes! U.S.A. is _not_ _the_ land of freedom, it stabilises its autocratic nature. Went for a couple of months from Germany to the U.S.A. in the early 1990's, and was shown the results of U.S. politics - homelessness, poverty, injustice of the society. Well, saw it, and remember it. No need to visit the U.S.A. ever again... All the best to the decent U.S. citizens!

                                That's the thing: a surprising number of Americans want to be submissives ordered around by Strict Father.
