A mad scientist has a shrink/grow ray and you will be hit with it. You will either be 100 times larger (200 m tall) or 100 times smaller (2 cm tall) for one week.
Because of movie logic you will not die or suffer any huge health impacts, but you must make it through the week.
Do you go big? Or do you go small?
How will you spend your week?
@futurebird does the same movie logic apply to any items you might be carrying while being shot with the shrink/expand ray?
If that’s the case then i’d definitely go smaller, with a couple of bowling balls, a hazmat suit and the date and location of Elon Musk’s next colonoscopy at hand. You can probably figure out the rest…
Though the Godzilla option also sounds pretty rad tbh.

@futurebird if I'm 100 times larger, does this mean my eyes will have an aperture of 600mm ? Sign me up.

Even, when I have to face to be eaten by my cats

Was gonna say bigger to at least avoid being stepped over, then I thought I could've hungered due to requiring way too much food. Smaller it is then, so I can learn from the ants and easily find sufficient food. -

With #picaTheCat it's not being eaten I'm worried about. In fact she'd turn her nose up at me. But, she'd want to "play" for hours.
*shudder*

@futurebird I chose smaller because I didn't want to be hungry looking for 100 times the amount of food for a week, and with huge hands have trouble grabbing onto things, whereas smaller I figure I can find something that can sustain me the whole week easily!

Imagine eating single part of a raspberry like an apple!
Having a slice of boba with a tiny dot of whipped cream on it!
@futurebird I suppose you could just swallow big things like a pumpkin without chewing when you decide tot be 200 m tall. But what would happen if you do that just before the week is over?

I'd build a nice little lego house and go small

@futurebird 100 times smaller will give me the chance to see how the citizens of my Model railroad really live and whether it make sense to stay there.

The average human sized human walks three miles an hour. One could assume at 100X the height the legs would get you places faster at almost the same rate, so around three hundred miles a day. I could see A LOTTA OCEANS AND MOUNTAINS AND AND ANNNDDD...
@HCBunny @futurebird Isaac Asimov wrote a short essay on the speed of seven league boots. If I recall correctly, he concluded that a person walking in them would break escape velocity and end up in orbit.

@futurebird I voted smaller, because it seems easier to (a) find things to eat and (b) explore without becoming a massive public spectacle, even if all I'd be exploring is my own home. Or maybe catch a ride on someone's trouser leg?
But if I did end up 170m tall, I'd tromp over to an ocean and go swimming, exploring depths not usually possible without specialized equipment.

100x…. Is that enough that vorticity matters? Reynolds number? One of the invisible ways the world is truly different at different scales?
Haven’t had to think about that for a while, can’t remember any details!

@futurebird "The Incredible Shrinking Man" described the dangers of being very small. But still...

My wife: I’d go small.
Me, just voted larger: “what would you do if you were that small?!”
Wife: make a cozy nest and take a nap. Ride my cats around the house…¯\_(ツ)_/¯ … ok, point taken.

@futurebird
200m is two Godzillas high, which would be great for mayhem. If I could make a plan in advance for public goods to pursue for the week, I'd probably pick that (I'm on the west coast, so storming DC on a whim probably isn't realistic). But if it's a surprise like in this hypothetical, small sounds more fun. 2cm isn't horrifyingly small yet, but it is small enough to change some physical constraints (eg safe fall height).
Plus, less likely to end in prison afterwards.
-
@futurebird @blindcoder larger = take that damn ray gun. Do the DC thing. Zap a big slobbery dawg. Feed the big dawg a particularly unappetizing chew toy — they’ll eat cat shit, so it work.

@futurebird If you were 100 times bigger, you would be surrounded by soldiers with tanks and attacked from the air by gunships and fighter planes. If you were 100 times smaller you would be eaten by a spider, a mantis, or a crow. Neither outcome seems ideal. I couldn't choose.
