    HUGE PSA. There is no way to add your iPhone with Apple Care on an iPhone Upgrade Program to Apple Care One. No matter what they tell you. They require you to LEAVE the Apple Upgrade program to do so. Absolute garbage customer service. Garbage. Avoid Apple Care One at all costs! Cc @jsnell and @dmoren

      @film_girl @jsnell @dmoren Preach! It's really anything/everything that vaguely involves an "apple account" at the center of anything. For example..the "purchase migrations" feature that doesn't really work..and even if/when it does..it doesn't actually migrate anything..since the purchases disappear if/when the original account is deleted. You feel every bit of the creaky 2003 era Apple iTunes account at the center of it all through and through.

        @film_girl @jsnell @dmoren Did you contact 1 rep, or "many" reps? Sometimes the first rep is not too well trained on unbundling (do not cancel).

          @darkghosthunter @jsnell @dmoren I had a call back from a guy when the first very nice rep couldn’t get the plan refunded (and she told me the loan amount would be different but it would be the same length). He told me I had to leave the upgrade program to use the phone on Apple Care One. After I’d already moved a Mac from one-time coverage to the plan. So now I’m stuck paying more money with no way out. Just insanity.

            Academic interest for now here in the UK.

            But it looks like there’s a good idea in there buried under by astonishingly shit implementation.

              @darkghosthunter @jsnell @dmoren they couldn’t unbundle. Said it’s not possible with theft and loss. A requirement of the new Apple Upgrade program. Just bullshit. And the guy was like “I can refund you your Apple Care One and you can re-enroll your Mac.” Motherfucker no you cannot. You already refunded me do the time left on the Apple Care. You’d be letting me pay a monthly fee instead. Fuck you. Just garbage and bullshit and their own staff isn’t trained in what is and isn’t possible.

                  @covercash @jsnell @dmoren Yes. But you’re supposed to be able to unlink them and then add that phone to Apple Care One. Apple even told Dan it is possible. It is not possible. To do that, you must leave the Apple Upgrade Program. They told me one thing yesterday and then another when a specialist called me today after the supervisor couldn’t cancel the plan. I wouldn’t have even tried if APPLE didn’t say it was possible and to contact their support.

                        @robnee @film_girl @jsnell @dmoren Fucking shit, that's it's like pointless.

                        The only way to fix this is to either escalate, and hope for a one time exception, or basically avoid the program altogether.

                        Thanks for the PSA tho.

                              @film_girl That stinks. I have yet to hear anyone who has had a good experience with this program. Apparently it is especially bad if you have a computer with multiple users who are signed in with AppleIDs too. Also doesn’t seem to work for families.

                              It’s mind boggling that the very apparent shortfalls have not been addressed or promoted warnings that specific circumstances are not covered. @siracusa has a whole story too!

                                @dmoren @covercash @jsnell it’s also different from what I was told over the phone first. My guess is when they swapped from AC to AC with theft and loss as your only AC option on phones, the theft and loss part being an insurance program is impossible to disentangle. But ofc that’s not what their rep told me yesterday. It was the guy who called me back today that did all that. This was after I’d created an AC One plan (at their direction) and added devices to it. Which I can’t go back from.

                                    @film_girl I think it refunded whatever was unused and those devices were then just without AppleCare. I re-enrolled them in “normal” AppleCare (monthly).

                                      @siracusa right that was what I knew would happen — sadly the monthly is more expensive than the annual/3-year and so it winds up making AC One a wash/even price wise. But I’m pissed this essentially cost me $30 just on principle.

                                        @film_girl Yes, I lost money on the whole experience because my earlier plans were cheaper.
