sooooo if i was to play with a lil site for "fediverse classifieds" that advertised different skillshare options what do u think the categories are
-
@inherentlee some random topics I can expound on:
1. simple methods for sourdough bread & starter managements
2. AMA about glaze chemistry (ceramics)
3. I can help you hurt/heal characters in fiction@LJ oh! food and stuff, that's one i wasn't thinking about!
i think 2) is arts/crafts and 3) is literature
culinary, maybe, is 1)
-
@inherentlee Oh no! Like, the skin on your face? Or the muscles?
I think everyone's nervous system has just had enough.
@artcollisions my doctor thinks its an infection of some kind but we don't know further. i am on some drugs about it

@artcollisions mostly it feels like i have a really big acne, that kinda achyness

@LJ or just "food and drink"
-
@WizardOfDocs is that maybe a literature category
@inherentlee I'd say not? I read "literature and history" as "work that primarily requires expertise in the canon(s) and ways of reasoning about that knowledge"
and what I'm looking for is "let me edit your novel, or your textbook, or your technical documentation, they take the same skills and I have experience with all of these use cases"

@inherentlee like to put it in terms from recent rejection emails
I don't want to be expected to be a subject matter expert and therefore limited to certain subjects. My expertise is in the mechanics of making writing sound good, and that applies to many kinds of writing that would otherwise be scattered across your categories. -
sooooo if i was to play with a lil site for "fediverse classifieds" that advertised different skillshare options what do u think the categories are
- technology (bc duh)
- art (edit probably arts/crafts)
- literature and history? social sciences? (edit: literature and writing is probably it's own, then..........social sciences? science and history?)
- interpersonal and life (thinking like ND tactics or things like that? idk?)
(edit to add...
- food and drink
- animals and the outdoors
- home improvement and diy OR JUST diy)i want pretty big overarching categories, not narrow.....but idk what level to aim at. they obv won't be balanced because we are so tech heavy lol
so far (there is almost nothing so far lol) it's a dead simple structure that just wants a fedi handle, title, category, and blurb for any individual listing. no email or other contact methods, just fedi
i'll probably also ask folks for a TTL on their listings...
@inherentlee I’m a dog trainer, and I’ve already done some skill share about it on here in the past.
“Animal care” as a category? I know we have keepers of chickens, snakes, rabbits, donkeys, etc. -

i will see what other ppl say!

@artcollisions mostly it feels like i have a really big acne, that kinda achyness
@inherentlee Ugh. I hope you feel right as rain soon!
-
-
@SeaFury hm. i am tempted to say that is craft but maybe like......home improvement? woodworking is craft but building or plumbing or electrical maintenance kinda calls for its own category
-

"nature, animals, and the outdoors"?
-

"nature, animals, and the outdoors"?
@Moss obv some are house pets but i want to avoid narrowing things too much
-
@artcollisions to be clear it's a useful answer! i am just gonna be sorting answers and seeing if they fit what i have brained thus far
@inherentlee I think @artcollisions might be onto something… like Repair/DIY stands out as a distinct category from Arts/Crafts.

@mycrowgirl @artcollisions oh hmmmmmm i guess imentally group those! good point. someone else was kinda pointing me towards maybe a home improvement category or similar so maybe it groups in there somehow...

@mycrowgirl @artcollisions i think i see craft especially as a broad encompassing of a lot of what might be also repair/diy at least when it comes to things like fiber etc...
but i do think that like home improvement and diy is a solid one?
-

@artcollisions drugs will probably help! they seem to be helping marginally already
-
@SeaFury hm. i am tempted to say that is craft but maybe like......home improvement? woodworking is craft but building or plumbing or electrical maintenance kinda calls for its own category
@SeaFury from a nother thread we are maybe coalescing around like, "home improvement and diy"
-

@inherentlee you're right that knowledge of literature does kinda go with writing and editing skill
I would like "editing" to be somewhere in the name of the category though, bc I expect that to be the thing the most potential clients are looking for without really knowing that's what they want -

@mycrowgirl @artcollisions maybe it's *just* diy maybe we keep it simple idk
