And related to this, #Blender already has Claude slop commits.

It's all fucked, Blender went dark.

@mrmasterkeyboard - open-source software and corporate sponsorship should be an oxymoron. I wish we lived in a world where making cool computer software was just supported by the public and free of the clutches of MEGACORPS

@mrmasterkeyboard If you stop using products which were implemented with the help of AI you probably won't be able to use any software at all.
Even the policy for the Linux kernel allows the usage of AI tools: https://www.zdnet.com/article/linus-torvalds-and-maintainers-finalize-ai-policy-for-linux-kernel-developers/.

I'm saying that as someone who does not use and is against generative AI.

That means we should call it out harder. If more people were mad at the Linux devs maybe they'd get the fucking memo already.

@mrmasterkeyboard although your concern is warranted I think it’s exaggerated to say that blender went dark because they are using AI for assistance. The commits you mentioned are not solely commuted buy AI rather have human supervision. Or am I wrong?

friend they took money from anthropic. anthropic is a wholeheartedly fascist company.

Don't get me wrong, we are furious at the llm contamination too, but both things are individually worth taking up arms, so to speak

@Mahura @mrmasterkeyboard it is less about specific commits and more about the trend of the maintainers gradually handing their cognition off to the machine. Like, I would not trust someone who I learned drove after having a few drinks, even if they managed to get home safely

Developers should not hand the cognitive load to the machine. Otherwise software will be excruciatingly difficult to maintain.

@cloudskater @chikl @mrmasterkeyboard Linux isn't quite ran like that, unfortunately. Far more of the decisions are dictated by money coming from corporate sponsors and contributors, and that crowd could not give a shit less about public opinion as long as it doesn't affect their stocks

That's… wow that's horrible, how did we let the leaders of open source tech get bought out like that?

I'm sure it goes far, far back in Linux's history, but that is a serious problem.
