        @hannah they're thinking about providing weapons to ethnic militias that oppose the IRI

        btw these groups all fucking hate each other and want to carve out their own ethno-states (& cleanse the lands of the "impure")

        so yeah things are probably going to get a lot worse and I hope yarup is ready to receive another 10-20 million refugees

          @hannah A "strikingly blunt answer" has a markedly different meaning in my head than it does in whatever universe the person who wrote that paragraph happens to live in.

                  @hannah This is a new high bar for "I honestly can't believe this is real news."

                  I'm not being hyperbolic here.

                    @hannah Reading the recent Atlantic article on the re-militarization of Germany, and thinking about how the US is treating its allies, and now I have visions of a possible scenario[*] where the US invades Germany but this time they are defending themselves against, well, you know...

                    It wouldn't be funny if it wasn't awful, but it's pretty awful.

                      @tekhedd @hannah

                      How can US troops invade Germany when they are already there?
                      And no, I don't think fighting between US and Germany is in any way likely.

                          @Mab_813 @hannah No, you're right. I'd like to believe that at least *this* scenario is still impossible, if no longer literally "unthinkable".
