Which is a good thing btw, some 200W Gorilla of a "Laptop" I'd rather charge from a barrel plug in daily use than through USB-C (not that I own one). Actual configuration that exists, by the way, high power barrel plug + less power USB-C (Thunderbolt), like on an "Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI".@aliceif @EUCommission magsafe is a waste of space still

@EUCommission corporations still manage to find ways to screw this up though, like Lenovo requiring a very specific USB-C cable in order to charge my YOGA laptop.

@EUCommission Actually, not quite. I still have devices that use micro and mini USB, and there are plenty of devices that require USB-A to USB-C cables for charging. On top of that, devices need different power adapters—5W, 15W, 20W, 35W, or even more. And cables don’t last forever. So, what’s the real advantage?

Also since USB-C became standard I no longer have to worry about not being able to charge my stuff in certain situations, or take multiple chargers with me unless I wanna charge my 3DS or something
I can just charge my phone, laptop, Steam Deck, etc with the same charger and that's just neat

A standard is good, I just kind of wish USB C wasn't so prone to wearing out quickly and falling out all the time

Impossible to buy a full USB-C cable in local shops. They are all only wired for USB-2, so no USB-DP, some USB charging modes don't work and no USB-3 speeds.Also none of my USB-C chargers or PC USB-C port will charge one USB-C device I have, only a USB-A port on PC or charger works.
Some laptop need more than 20W (typical chargers are only 10W!). Some need more than the 100W (high power).
All laptops > 20W should have also a dedicated charge port.@raymaccarthy @mmalc @EUCommission @jnfingerle I've never purchased a laptop that didn't come with a charger though

@EUCommission now I got 10 cables that look the same but all work slightly differently. Not saying that's worse than before but pretty difficult to figure out.

One of my own examples:
VW put USB-C outlets all over the place in the ID.Buzz. Excellent, very considerate.
I got a dash-cam with a USB-C charging port…I tried literally over a dozen different USB-C-to USB-C cables trying to get the cam to power up. Each failed.
What did work was putting a USB-C to USB-A adapter into the outlet on the car, and plugging the cam into the adapter using its USB-A to USB-C cable.

LMAO, maybe USB-C just hate USB-C. Sometimes you need one or two mediator in between the plugs.

️@mmalc @raymaccarthy @EUCommission @jnfingerle Mandating USB-C doesn't prevent crappy vendors from misusing the connector, badly implenting the standard or maliciously complying.
It however improves the overall user experience, by e.g requiring a single charger and cable for your iPhone, your partner's Pixel and your daughter's Kindle.
Different product categories will obviously still require different charging bricks due power requirements.
