@eugeneparnell @sarae I found one in the woods while camping about 15 years ago. It'd clearly been there through multiple winters, and no doubt someone was pissed about losing it. I removed the surface rust with a Dremel and replaced the rotten handle. It's been my go-to for chopping firewood ever since. 🪓

I have an axe i need to rehang. I have the new handle, wedges, and maybe a grinder to shape the wood. Now if I can find the safe place I put my motivation, I'll be all set. 🫠 -

@ai6yr his wife and I got to chatting and she said, these things you get nowadays that are just designed to be thrown away, you know they make us so angry! and I said me too, and you know the only reason I'm not buying any of these tools is that I've got nice ones at home already, but it makes me so happy to see someone sorting these out and getting them back into service

my personal haul from the plant sale included a native willow, a neat native Californian mint that I'm hoping will like it on the coast, the vibrant purple Tradescantia pallida, and a new begonia
priced at about half what you'd spend at a garden center or box store -- thank you, master gardeners, beautifying our community with high quality low cost plants

@cvvhrn I got out for just under forty bucks, which honestly is indicative of great restraint on my part
so much cool stuff and it's all going to do well in our climate

@ai6yr his wife and I got to chatting and she said, these things you get nowadays that are just designed to be thrown away, you know they make us so angry! and I said me too, and you know the only reason I'm not buying any of these tools is that I've got nice ones at home already, but it makes me so happy to see someone sorting these out and getting them back into service

@sarae @LabSpokane @ai6yr yeah those are some nice double bit axes! I love mine and had had it for over 30 years.
I love the idea of fixing up old garden tools and giving or selling them to others!

he sells out of his garage mostly
@sarae @LabSpokane @ai6yr Once went razor clam digging at Roosevelt Beach and guy in a PU truck at the approach had a bunch of clam shovels he had cleaned up, bought one with a longer, thinner blade than I had. Paid him $30 and I’ve dug lots of clams with it. I would not sell it today for $250.

@sarae plus you got a little “strawberry begonia” which is really a saxifraga stolonifera. It sends out delicate pink runners with new baby plants at the ends, and can become a lovely ground cover in shady parts of the garden.
️ plus when it flowers it is fairyland for days. -
