@davidgerard There is a there there. That wasn’t the case for crypto.

@davidgerard There was a buy in at the crypto casino table that was always a stumbling block, while AI is provided for 'free', and most of the people that suffer first are those they look down their noses at, like artists and writers who should have gotten 'real' STEM jobs.

@FayeDrake @davidgerard AI has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that all STEM and business degrees should come wit mandatory ethics and humanities lessons, actual ethics, not the Effective Altrism culy tinged drivel, or the 'ethics with an app done purely for marketing' style faux ethics of Anthropic.

@passenger @davidgerard blockchains are indeed terrible which is so frustrating because the application domain they claim to cover is perhaps the most interesting thing in the world to me. when i have a better handle on the build and packaging shit i will be releasing more work in the area of anonymous networking

Yeah but on this coast Burning Man does that and the effects are, uh, deeply mixed. Universal Unitarianism as an alternative treatment would have equal upside and less downside afaict. (Not an adherent, just impressed by the effect of regular talking and a church basement with a coffee urn.)

@davidgerard @katrinatransfem there is something fishy about the most recent influencer campaign. They even got Knuth to mention a specific product by name.
It's like they did psychological profiling on individuals, and then give them exactly what they need to praise them, and not their competitor (and of course push the concept as a whole bit only secondarily).

@loke @davidgerard @katrinatransfem fake-grassroots marketing and influence campaigns are very real but “Donald Knuth would never mention that something very famous exists without some sort of hand-crafted psyop infecting his brain” is basically ascribing godlike powers to a random junior marketing employee
