    One of the features of “AI” is the diffusion of responsibility: “AI” systems are being put in all kinds of processes and when they fuck up (and they always fuck up) it was just the “AI”, or “someone should have checked things”. “AI” companies want to sell machines to solve every issue but give no […]

      @tante
      I used to joke that after 5 years old, men continue to age, but not mature. I hoped it really was a joke...

        @tante as much as I disagree with someone putting out vibecoded slop the responsibility still lies with those choosing it for their core processes (usually corporate "decision makers" hellbent on productivity).

        If I push for a cloud service or open source project that turns out to not pass basic quality control or breaks the bank, I'm still the one responsible for introducing it to my environment.

        >our experience of being able to rely on open source projects who take their product, their work and their users’ safety seriously and invalidates decades of hard work establishing that kind of trust

        no warranty given or implied. If you ever trusted open source software without involving yourself in the community by either checking the code, contributing or interacting with the maintainers that was always gross negligence at best.

          @tante

          The phrase “AI slop” is a fundamental part of this deflection — it implies that the problem is the AI, and not the sloppiness of the person putting the slop out for others to use.

            @tante In German, any "of"-construction with Genitive case can be a compound. For example, "#Verantwortungsdiffusion" – and I think, it's a pity that's necessary.

              @tante Any AI dev meeting should have a point of order, "RDM implementation" – "What's that, then?" – "Oh, it's the responsibility diffusor module." – "Sounds wonky. What does it do?" – "Never mind what it does. Investors already love it!" – "Sold!"

              EDIT: The "D" part will be played out as different spellings, "diffuser", "diffusor", "diffusion", according to local tastes, dialects, and the immensity of the inferiority complex of the most important member of the board present for the pitch.

                @cmw @tante I'm a man. I just to want to be 5 years old again, because I don't want to live in this world anymore. Having seen what my common men are capable off. Fuck everything.

                  I guess we are just lying about everything now. Imagine if false advertising laws actually existed.
