Let's go #GenX
@samvarma this was the first pink thing that i actually wanted
-
@billyjoebowers @geoffduncan Yeah don't ask me why... I always liked the well-known songs, just never bit down on it
-
@samvarma I’m not GenX, but it’s over 20 years old, so I think it deserves to be thrown in the ring…
@rowan_johnson Interesting because I always think of Dookie as their classic, but for many it's probably this
-
@samvarma this was the first pink thing that i actually wanted
@emily_rugburn Hell of a place to start!! Next on my list... I've never checked it out, even though I know it's legendary

@samvarma I only just squeak into Gen X but this was the first CD I ever bought.

@samvarma … and this was probably my first intro to anything proggy…

-
@samvarma
Bits hold up, “Electric Eye” could be covered today. The end of the title track is still the platonic ideal of a divebomb+rage for me.A few years later local parents would sue Judas Priest for the suicides of their sons, claiming subliminal messages egged them on. The band was acquitted.
@geoffduncan I do remember that story. Also crazy how much chorus they had in their guitar sound!
-
@gogmagog @samvarma I saw them on the previous album tour. Animal Magnetism. I was a huge fan at the time and was surprised by Mattias being in the band. I was hoping for Michael or Uli. Mr Jabs did a great job nonetheless. I screamed myself hoarse yelling for them to play Sails of Charon or Polar Night.

@emily_rugburn Wow Apple Music actually does not have "loveless"

@danfairs I remember it was maybe the first record that he did where he got an actual drummer and bass player on there. If I'm not mistaken on surfing and blue dream it was a drum machine and him playing bass

@danfairs Now listening to his first album, which is great too

@samvarma That was definitely the case on Not Of This Earth. I can’t find my copy of Surfing right now, but on FIABD, there are a variety of bass and drum credits.

@danfairs Yeah Wikipedia actually says it was drum machine but then they overdubbed cymbals and high hats et cetera

@samvarma ah makes sense

@danfairs But man the budgets for those first three records were just so tiny

@samvarma yeah I think I heard an interview with Satch ages ago saying he spent basically all his money recording and releasing the first album!
