California is about to foolishly ruin e-bikes. The reasoning would be funny “peak power is the problem!” If it had no consequences.

“The one thing they (police chiefs) we’re talking about was e-bikes, not murder etc”
That sounds like they have flawed priorities, though, no? They aren’t concerned with, say—you know what this won’t work because acab so yeah, never mind.

This is such a strange spectacle. This law as proposed is pretty obviously flawed and foolish. More rigorously policing *legal* e-bikes as a response to illegal vehicles is a waste of effort at best.

This feels like a condemnation of physics education in the US

@steve Right? The whole pitch just… doesn’t hold up and I am frustrated that it is given this much consideration

@steve @griotspeak But if they took out the “bike” limitation and applied it to •all• vehicles, they’d have my attention

@inthehands @griotspeak I want kinetic energy limits. Is that too much to ask for?

@inthehands @griotspeak Your SUV is allowed to go 25mph in a residential neighborhood? Ok, an eight year-old on an e-bike can go 200 something miles an hour. Fair's fair.

@inthehands @griotspeak (I'm sort of joking, because actual safety risks are a bit more complex than just kinetic energy, but I'm also sort of not joking).

@griotspeak and an example of the failure to PARENT.
