@hermannus 42C and higher and a medical condition that responds poorly to heat would disagree.
@MsHearthWitch @hermannus i don't relish biking in 38c weather, and hotter is worse, but during the nicer parts of the year I prefer cycling to driving, just always bring water and snacks

@spinni81 My skirts and petticoats tend to be very very full (this one only has some 4-5 metres of hem at instep length, but the petticoat has 16 metres of hem ruffle) so even if they're not getting tangled into the bike gears or wheel, I need to gather them up in one hand when mounting or dismounting, so my actual legs don't get tangled in them when I do.
This is fine, but not fun to do in stressful situations like when the light suddenly changes! If I was sitting on the three wheels, it would be much more pleasant probably. My fairly ancient regular old bike looks much the same as that, except dinkier! There are skirt nets available for bikes but I never ever remember to get around to it, and it doesn't quite solve the dismount issue
@sinituulia @spinni81 I have one of those Edwardian trouser skirts that was originally designed for ladies to bike (the buttons down the middle open to make it fully trousers). No petticoats with this one I’m afraid, bloomers only.

@irgndsondepp Thank you! This is very encouraging, and yeah I live kind of between two cities so any major trips would require the car. BUT there are shops including a decent grocery store and many restaurants and cafes and parks in very very easy biking distance. Including a library that I cannot walk to given my current body but could bike to!
I've decided any and all future art sale profits are going towards my bike purchase fund.
@MsHearthWitch @irgndsondepp for groceries we have something in the Netherlands called a bakfiets (can also be electric). They come in all shapes and sizes but basically you have a box either in front or behind you, and some are inline wheeled and some have 3 wheels. Most people here load them up with kids for the school or daycare run, but I have used mine for garden center trips

@Frantasaur @irgndsondepp Yes! From what I can tell over here this style is called a cargo bike. It's definitely something I'm considering.
It's between this style bike, or a more traditional ebike with a trailer for dog+cargo

The responses to this have really shown me that the Bike People that I don't follow are actually very similar to the Linux ppl I don't follow and are part of why I avoided it for so long.
@MsHearthWitch I find the internet to be ever full of people with fairly middling takes which they believe apply to literally everyone. This is, of course, not true.

@choccymalk It's the forever present idea that a complete stranger knows more and is better informed about good options than the person experiencing it.
And I do get the value in crowd sourcing solutions for problems. But it's just so infantalizing the way people (primarily white dudes) approach other folks online.

@MsHearthWitch i’m getting closer to where I can start working on this. But I’m still a ways away. The past nine months have been so chaotic. I’m still in survive mode.

@MsHearthWitch Fediverse: gateway drug to Avid Cyclism, which is a gateway drug to toxic masculinity and spandex addiction.
Parents, remember to talk to your kids about Mastodon. If you don't, who will?

@MsHearthWitch Seems mentioning biking is attracting even more reply's than mentioning Linux.

@Branwen74 haha for sure. And I do welcome advice generally, people who presume they've a more intelligent grasp of my situation and capacity than I do are really fucking annoying!

@MsHearthWitch my entry into Biking Places was slow, and I still avoid Weather (though what I can power through has changed over time)
Super thankful to my friend years and years ago that came over and helped me get my bike set up to ride, which included things like relearning how a bike pump works

@MsHearthWitch As a "Fedi Linux Bike Person You Don't Follow" myself, I'd like to apologize.
Sheesh. I hope you get to be a Person Who Bikes Places, and congrats on starting painting!
Thanks for boosting @CiaraNi, salutations.
