    @anton I'm but a teeny tiny customer so probably at the end of the mailing list 🙂

    And: "Anton" comes way before "JP" 🙂

      @jpmens I'd not say we're a big customer either.
      On the other hand, our first invoice is from 2011, so perhaps they use the customer ID as an increment for the mailings.

        @jpmens @anton tbh I found some of their pricing worryingly low. Not so sure you'll find something sustainable that is cheaper.

        @bert_hubert @jpmens @anton They once explained their price advantage comes from mainly from their custom server builds and in parts passively cooled data centre setup.

        Not sure how reliable that info is, after all it's from a marketing tour.

            One thing I've always kinda admired about Martin - ever since "back then" - was his sharp pencil. If you look at the pricing it models real world cost increase pretty closely. Their pricing is mostly a function of inflation with tightly fitted margins around actual cost.

              Hetzner is quite dramatically "adjusting prices" beginning April 1st 2026, but I've not yet been informed by them.

              Unless it's an April Fool's joke (daft date) time is fleeting if we want to look for alternatives.

              @jpmens is it that:

              They need to scale up/out rapidly, therefore need additional cash to facilitate that?

              Or is it shareholders/investors (I've no idea how Hetzner is structured) demanding a divvy/ROI?

              Or has Altman's forced acquisition of everything hardware shaped pushed their own procurement cost up high enough that it's denting the bottom line?

              Whichever - those are pretty unpleasant rises in % terms.

                Not just Hetzner, OVH are also substantially raising their prices and curiously on exactly the same date.

                  @jpmens @anton I´m going back to hetzner even with the new prices. OVH is pushing more than 60% vs 36% from hetzner.

                        @AlanJP It's not curious, all providers got their new prices from their memory vendors, and this will get worse 😞

                          @jpmens @anton @johanneskastl don’t blame Hetzner, blame the AI bogosity that’s sucking up all the RAM and Storage.

                          And don’t think migrating is going to save you money in the long term-it’s going to hit all the hosters. My guess is that Hetzner is going first because they don’t have as high a margin, which is why they’ve been cheaper.

                            @AlanJP
                            Thanks for the heads-up. OVH has a pretty unfortunate track record of ratcheting up the price on the same hardware I've had for years. I've got a couple other VPS instances at other providers who lock the price so I need to spend some time migrating my OVH host over to them.
