    If you're a cis man, what does masculinity mean to you?

    If you're a cis woman, what does femininity mean to you?

    Have you ever taken the time to sit down and carefully ask yourself that question, and listen to yourself about it?

    @munin cis man
    though I do have no idea what masculinity means to me. If it's the stereotypes from (social) media, then I'm certainly not masculine

      @thehole

      Perhaps think about what you consider to be masculinity and whether that fits what you feel about yourself.

        @munin ah, I did in the past and came to no conclusion, really.
        At least nothing that would fit me, personally.

          You might consider looking at 'agender' as an option; it's a pretty neat one.

            @munin ah yes, thought about whether cis describes me and didn't come to a conclusion either 😅

              @munin Whenever I've reflected on those terms I'm disappointed to think about how much of their societal representation imprinted on us is the results of layering decades of commercial marketing. Everyone has elements of their own takes on the impact of those terms, but I always circle back to how did they get there rather than anything intrinsic about those aspects.

                Honestly, I've met a lot of people who just aren't attached to their notional gender and who kinda dig the "agender" "I'm opting out of this BS" option lol

                  @munin haha, fair enough.

                  When did you first come to think about your gender, if I may ask?

                    @thehole

                    'roundabouts 2020, my partner came back from a pilgrimage and shortly after told me they were nonbinary, which - ofc I supported them, but it got me thinking "well shit, what does that mean for me?"

                    And things kinda progressed from there.

                      @munin as a cis dude the only kind of "masculinity' I've thought about is the toxic kind. And how to actively avoid it. I bet if I suddenly woke up as a woman though I would think about it a lot more.

                      Its one of those things that's a bigger deal when there's a mismatch between expectations than reality.

                        it means clothes are expected to have pockets, and the shirt buttons are on the right-hand side. these are the only consistent elements of the experience as far as I've been able to tell

                        oh and clothing sizes are vaguely related to actual measurements, instead of assigned at random
