This is an important development -- a new tractor company selling machines that encourage repairs by the people who use them, rather than expensive control by a corporate monopolist.

We need to make this a trend, not an exception.

We need to make this company thrive so that others pop up and create a new market because we would not want a "Preston Tucker" or "John Delorean" situation happening, incited by US agrobiz... because you know they would love to.

@dangillmor Someone convince #MarkCarney et al to promote this thing internationally, especially in countries not engaged in any trade war against us. Exporting train cars of these through our Pacific and Atlantic ports to Oceania, Asia, Europe, Africa, and South and Central America, with federal assistance to scale for international demand, would harm the #separatist cause.
And spreading #rightToRepair is an unalloyed good anyway. @avilewis, you at least know the guy. Happen to have a means to get in touch? I imaging the #NDP would be supportive of helping other countries get free of the US duopoly with their inbuilt kill-switches.
Meanwhile, can anyone persuade this company to offer an electric variant? If it's just as independently repairable, a lot of countries would want that option instead.

@dangillmor @jamesmarshall
A recent update to the relevant EU regulations are also forcing JohnhDeer3 into making it easier to access repair information, materials and parts.https://www.agriland.ie/farming-news/eu-legislation-enshrines-machinery-right-to-repair-from-2026/

@dangillmor when you're facing monopolies like that, or closed systems, you can create your own foundation for an "open source" tractor project. You may want to contact the @fsf or riscv.org or @TheASF to learn how they did it in their respective industries...

@dangillmor There's a company to buy stock in.
Sadly they will be bought out and dismanteled by John Deer.
