    From my point of view, the Roman Catholic church has spent the last 1,200 years emphasizing that the occupant of the Seat of Peter has supreme apostolic authority. So I am puzzled by Catholics who diss the Pope. Why are you still Catholic, and not, say, Episcopalian or Continuing Anglican or Lutheran?

    (Note well that I am not Roman Catholic, and this is a significant reason why; but I have great respect for my RC friends who revere the papacy.)

      @ossobuffo
      Whether in religion or politics, those most enthusiastic about the ideal of authority tend to assume that authority will always be used in ways they approve of, and they lose their enthusiasm quickly when it isn’t.
