Hi Fediverse!π We're Volt Europa, a pan-European political party building a federal, green, and progressive Europe.

Now, let's be honest. We know what it looks like when organisations show up, cross-post for two weeks, and disappear. We don't want to be that. But we're a small team with limited resources, so we need this to work both ways.
Engage with us. Challenge us. Tell us what you want to see from a European political party in this space. Help us make this worth it, for all of us.
This is the start of a conversation, not a campaign. Let's talk.

@VoltEuropa Thanks for joining the Fediverse!

Hi Fediverse!
We're Volt Europa, a pan-European political party building a federal, green, and progressive Europe.
We believe in digital sovereignty, transparency, and putting people before platforms. Sound familiar? That's precisely why we're here.
We're not just looking for another channel to broadcast on. We chose this space because it reflects what we stand for: open, decentralised, and community-driven. We want to be part of this, not just present on it.
𧡠1/2
@VoltEuropa what I want?
I want regular but low frequency content: what do we think is important this week/today. What is our position on it? Why? What have we done about it?
And if I think that the reasoning or the prerequisite is off, I want an honest explanation.E.g.
- energy prices are too high, we want to lower tax.
- Why do you think it is too high? It makes energy saving valuable!
- SilenceWhat I donβt want: 10 posts a day about the pope being catholic.

Could you share what this means to you, please, and what steps you would take to get there?

@VoltEuropa Well I'd love the local Dutch Volt politicians to use their accounts again rather than just BlueSky
Laurens Dassen did a few posts but then stopped again, quite sad...
Hopefully you'll do differently. -

@lexinova @VoltEuropa "Our web servers are hosted by Digital Ocean in the EU and only in datacenters that fully run on renewable energy."

@lexinova @VoltEuropa "Our web servers are hosted by Digital Ocean in the EU and only in datacenters that fully run on renewable energy."
See https://volteuropa.org/tech@safonas @VoltEuropa so your server are on US infrastructure

because spoiler alert the cloud act make any us company server (in EU or not) US reachable.
So in short, you use US server

I know it's annoying
β
οΈ nothing we can do but avoid those US company -

@VoltEuropa welcome to the Fediverse!
Some sore points:
1) Stop/eliminate Chat Control / EU going Dark.
2) promote Free and Open Source Software projects.
3) enforce GDPR - especially Big Tech.
4) privacy friendly/preserving digital ID.
5) Lobby Control / combat Corruption / more Transparency & Accountability on EU-level.
-
@lexinova @VoltEuropa "Our web servers are hosted by Digital Ocean in the EU and only in datacenters that fully run on renewable energy."
See https://volteuropa.org/tech@safonas @VoltEuropa also don't take my message the wrong way.
i tend to ask and warn about cloud act behing making the idea of "eu server" of us company non sovereign.
i do not judge people not knowing.
i just hope now you know you can plan in the furutre to move in EU company if possible.
i of course not say to do it instantly at any cost

@lexinova 100% OK with what you said... Lead by example! Show the move go to gitea or codeberg and use EU solutions @safonas @VoltEuropa https://european-alternatives.eu/category/cloud-computing-platforms

@scips @safonas @VoltEuropa yeah but they are often misleading due to the confusion between the EU badge and EU hosted badge, some EU badge are eu hosted but don't have the "hosted badge" making them quite unreliable.

@scips @safonas @VoltEuropa and that does not even take into account the fact they don't verify it (scaleway marked as eu hosted yet when you open the website) : CNAME www.scaleway.com.cdn.cloudflare.net.
showing it's false

@lexinova The honest answer: not fully yet. We've already made deliberate choices to move away from US-based services, but we're not going to pretend we've crossed the finish line. More transitions are in progress. But yes, US-based services are still part of our setup. Being a volunteer-driven organisation, replacing them takes time. We'd rather be honest about the gap than claim a sovereignty we haven't fully earned yet. Holding us to our own standard is exactly right, and we welcome it. (nr)

@VoltEuropa Ok sure, bring it on!
I've seen you guys at Portuguese campuses and what not and I've followed Varoufakis enough to have a gist of what you are about...but:
What is the action plan for the next 5 years. What are the critical axioms you unite under and priority undertakings. I mean getting the sovereign nations of Europe to formally unite is a BIG undertaking that I'd be down with on paper, but not at all costs. -

@VoltEuropa cheers from France ! Looking forward to read more about your program, in tech and all around.
If your experience on the fediverse is successful, you should plan on hosting your own instance and provide your elected officials with official accounts. We are fond of those. If needed, I might be able to help you in that regard, feel free to pm me when you're ready.

@VoltEuropa How about this: why not engage with us? There's plenty of tools to find things that might fall into your wheelhouse, that are worth jumping into the comments for.
I get wary of anyone who has a post/reply ratio that shows all post, no reply. Start by actually engaging instead of proclaiming and letting the comment section be a "talk amongst yourselves" wasteland.
We already have too many advertisement soapboxes, we need more conversation. And conversation doesn't end with the starter.
