On the rails again… #Interrail
After that hectic weekend, that left me a little jet lagged, today Wendy the DBJUNGLESKOG and I are headed towards the lovely city of Exeter, and to see the delightful @seabass.
Today’s itinerary: https://moof.space/trip/2026-03-02
First on the agenda is to make a stop for breakfast with someone over in Egham, before I continue on to Reading.

And I buggered up. I was all ready to go for the 10:27 to Reading, and having a chat on the platform. I got on the train as it was pulling in, and didn’t realise until the door closed that it was actually the 10:22 to Weighbridge!
I quickly determined that I could change at the next stop, Virginia Water, and so detrained there, and waited on the platform.
In my defense, the platform numbers are not obvious at Virginia Water, and I genuinely thought I was on Platform 2, waiting for the next train behind me to appear, only for it to appear the other side of a freight train that was blocking the view of the rest of the station, only what it turns out was a surprise couple of extra platforms on this junction station!
So I’m now stuck waiting for an hour here, munching on a tea cake at Costa Coffee as I wait for my next train to Reading

“This is the service to Reading. The next station is Long Cross”
Phew!
Onwards…

Made it to Exeter St David’s! Only 45 minutes or so later than scheduled, too.
I am somewhat surprised to find that there is a level crossing the north side of the station. This station has 14 services scheduled in the next hour, and it’s not yet rush hour, so those road gates must spend more time down than up.
I will say that the scenery out of the windows was very pretty on the way over. Lots of lush green fields and even some canals alongside the track. Definitely a nice way to end the morning.
I’ve taken a quick hop to the more modest and also conveniently located Exeter Central station, and now off to the hotel, before finding activities to do this afternoon.
