A bit of a rambling, barely coherent, essay on 'identity'
A conversation I had yesterday has got me thinking about the various labels we wear, consciously or otherwise.
These labels can be seen as our identity. My current labels are mostly in my bio - male, cyclist, allotmenteer, sketchers, radio amateur, British, European. I wear lots of labels.
Most of us have several labels, and they tend to be different sizes.
But I wonder if a problem arises when someone adopts one huge label and a few tiny ones, or indeed, just one label.
Is it a danger to •only• identify as 'socialist' or 'motorcyclist' or 'disabled' or 'victim' to the exclusion of all other possibilities?
Even when admit to several labels - is being laser focused on one of our labels putting us in danger of mental illness, extremism, or other criminal actions?
Maybe it's important occasionally to reflect and take stock of how we perceive ourselves and how others may see us.

@MikeFromLFE I kind of don't like labelling myself for this reason. I don't like pigeonholing myself as one thing or another.
