it's kinda hilarious watching bluesky users talking about how they have to stay on the site, even as it gets worse, because they can't go back to twitter!

which is the only other option available
@foone Quite a lot of them tried Fedi.

I don't know why they have this huge blindspot for mastodon, but it is hilarious to see that every time they talk about the viable microblogging platforms, they will list every possibility except fediverse ones
@foone I came to the conclusion that some people are simply ideologically opposed to the Fediverse. That billionaire-owned platforms aren't a necessary evil, but their preferred choice. I guess they feel pinko otherwise?

@foone Have you ever seen mainstream media mention mastodon? I sometimes see links to mastodon posts but not like an article mentioning it. Maybe they once tried it, found it lacking and dismissed it. They don't even know it's still *there* ten years later or so -
@foone There's no PR team pushing Mastodon on folk.
People talk about organic publicity. Well, ALL of Mastodon's publicity has to be viral, because no one with money is backing it. Also, there's no articles to write on how Mastodon Boss has made some stupid decision.
@rodneylives
John Mastodon is wise. John Mastodon is smart.

@foone mostly when I try to promote fedi there people yell at me so I stopped

One time I even had someone have a go at me because fedi is apparently anti queer? That was pretty bizarre

@eniko @foone I've heard people say the wildest things about Mastodon.
"there's no moderation", "they allow nazis" etc.
idk why it's so hard for people to understand that even though the overall network might not have a single unified moderation policy, the individual instances most definitely have their own rules and you can easily join one that aligns with your own values.

@foone but someone might ask them to use a content warning

-
@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place @foone@digipres.club although i did just think about it and i have seen gross behaviour here(recent one was reducing someone who to their parents and then being weird about the it/its pronouns the being used), but its not federated well as its from known instances that dont deal with them, so most block that instance

tbh we just gave up trying to advocate fedi to our bluesky-main friends, I think their ignoring of our "hey you should try fedi" posts has made it clear that they do not want to hear us talk about it anymore, and would probably rather even go back to twitter and get a blue check
There's a friend who said they were going to join but they made excuses as to why they never followed through so I left them alone

@foone Worst is I've seen people start here, go "this isn't right" for reasons not disclosed, move to blue sky and complain about it disclosing *exactly* the reasons it sucks.

and to clarify: I'm not saying mastodon is 100% perfect or for everyone.
Maybe some of them have tried mastodon and don't like it for whatever reason, sure!
but my point is that they don't even mention it as a possibility.

it's not that they don't think mastodon is bad for whatever reason, it's that they don't think about mastodon at all

@foone I increasingly feel as I age that having technological and scientific knowledge is more burden than boon.
