    @coop

    Question for the community!

    I'm helping a Toronto council candidate's campaign this year. We were planning to use Mastodon if we could to help with our web presence and we'll need to find a server.

    I was wondering if CoSocial would allow this. And if so, I'm guessing it would require a financial contribution like regular membership does?

    Worth mentioning of course we wouldn't be participating in behavior like tagging people in an unsolicited manner.

            @monicarooney Plenty of opportunities for folks anywhere to help with social media boosting etc, and anyone in Toronto to help with ground game though. Happy to keep you in the loop if you're interested. I've known Gabe for a few years and he's a great guy. I'm excited for this. Good opportunity for modern progressive efforts in the city.

              @mattwelke @coop It wouldn't bother me. Maybe a poll of CoSocialites would be a good idea?

                @mattwelke @coop

                I presume a CoSocial address would require the Candidate be a co-op member, as we're not a public instance, and that would be fine if it were fine with them. I suspect Campaign Financing rules would have more to say about it than we do IF it were to For The Campaign. It could be a personal membership of the same person though.

                If they wanted a campaign-only "image" something Canadian-branded but free might be the better choice. mstdn.ca is the biggest, federated CanCon opt.

                  @johannab Agree with your first para. But not obvious to me why mstdn.ca would be a better choice.

                    @timbray @mattwelke @coop I sent matt a private note, because at least amongst the candidate(s) and more important, their campaign management ppl I've talked to, if they incur an expense "for the campaign" such as a branded social media presence that costs something, including in kind, campaign finance people can get headaches.

                    CoSocial.ca would have to be a *personal* account, which would be great! But they probably need to be wary of paying or "receiving a gift" for campaign purposes.

                      @mattwelke Great initiative!

                      There are other Canadian instances that are free, that might work better for the campaign
