Some org started rehiring junior devs because AI companies keep increasing their token costs.

the current NASDAQ and S & P 500 bull run is just usual pump and dump by tech bros. If you hold any position be careful, we are heading for another DOT com style bubble crash for sure. the only winning move is not to play.

@nixCraft I wished it would finally burst! This waiting is exhausting and the popcorn I bought for the following scramble and panic is going bad

You just have to wait until the AI bubble bursts or the VC money dries up. Approx 40% to 50% of AI data centers planned for 2026 in the U.S. are likely to be delayed or canceled as banks and VCs are refusing to provide further financing

Juniors are O(N) to train and O(N) to run, and on a good day they are self-debugging.
LLM-AI's are O(NβΆ) to train and O(NΒ²) to run, and management bought it based on the bugs.
It sounds like someone is discovering exponentials. They should teach those in MBA courses and save us all a lot of pain.
Wait until they discover that greybeards are O(1) to train O(1) to run because they will tell you your idea is (a) stupid and infeasible or (b) hand you a 10-line Perl script that does the job.

@nixCraft the .com bust led to effectively no dev hiring between 2000 and 2006... we're in for a loooooong wait for dev jobs to return. I also don't see a 2006-style recovery ever happening because I don't buy the layoffs are actually AI, the AI angle is spin. They are offshoring + capacity reduction. The overlords, on principle, don't want to hire US citizens to code, and that's not going to change. Why hire a lazy American when you can hold an ICE gulag over an H1-B worker if you need on site.

@nixCraft winning move is short at the peak and buy at the dip

@nixCraft
Is there a source I can show around besides your hopeful toot? -

@nixCraft How long for the EU esp. Germany? My runway isn't really all that much longer.

@nixCraft and they'd do it all over again if they could. Smh.
