@AwetTesfaiesus "and society hasn’t collapsed" - not sure to which part this applies, but at least here in media we get to hear that's partly "because of so much investments from other countries" due to the weak Yen.
Weak Yen is leading to many tourists (to a degree word "overtourism" gets used here), that's also an uptick for economy.I compared Japan and Germany by the factors important to me at https://blog.fluxcoil.net/posts/2025/02/living-abroad-in-japan/ .

Aber die Transformation ist leider völlig unklar.

Die Transformation passiert, indem wir uns darüber unterhalten, was wir wollen und wie wir dahin kommen und wählen. "Wie geht die Transformation" in einem politischen Gespräch ist gleichzeitig Tautologie und Oxymoron.
Immer wenn man sagt, wie die Welt aussehen soll, heißt es "aber wie dahin?" und immer wenn man sagt, wie dahin, heißt es "aber will man das?"

@AwetTesfaiesus what a measure! Iran is getting bombed and society has not collapsed Cuba has an oil embargo and the world hasn't come to a halt.
However Japan has become poorer. The yen has lost 50% value compared to the Euro. People can afford less, inflation was so high after Covid, they named it a rice crisis because people couldn't afford it.
And the future outlook is bleak as they do not want immigration, but society is growing old, while japans politics is highly corrupted. -

@AwetTesfaiesus Der japanische Staat funktioniert vor allen Dingen trotz Null-Wachstum sehr gut, während bei uns die Infrastruktur verrottet und der Faschismus anklopft, ob er mal übernehmen soll.
Der Unterschied liegt in der Geldpolitik. Japan kennt nicht nur keine "Schuldenbremse", sondern pulvert Geld in den Markt, als ob es kein Morgen gäbe.
Und siehe da, es stellt sich wie durch eine "magische Hand" ein Gleichgewicht ein, weil dieses Geld ganz von alleine durch Steuern wieder aus dem Geldkreislauf verschwindet.
Die Katastrophe, die die neoliberale Geldmengentheorie vorhersagt, tritt einfach nicht ein.Das entwertet nicht durchaus angemessene Kritik an deren Wirtschaftspolitik, zeigt aber, dass das Fundament des Neoliberalismus ungefähr so weit von Fakten entfernt ist, wie die Flat-Earth-Theorie.
Wir könnten auch funktionierende Schultoiletten haben und effizienten, pünktlichen ÖPNV, wenn wir etwas mehr nach Japan schauten, statt uns an überkommenen Märchenerzählungen festzuklammern.
