@joe the veneer of science has been used to harm throughout history, most notably through eugenics and phrenology but equivalently through modern applications of computational statistics, which misuse the same veneer of science and indicate the fundamental weakness of academia as a construct. i would question its inclusion without editing

@hipsterelectron @joe how about "Science is flawed, and yet it is the best chance at knowing reality than literally everything else".
It doesn't fit nicely with the other checkboxes, though.

@hipsterelectron i think generally these "in these house we believe" slogans have all reduced to incantations for american liberals to absolve our personal responsibility for our country's awfulness, over any sincere or coherent belief

@hipsterelectron @joe There is science and the use of science… Science can be and has been used in unethical ways.

But denying science like right-winger fascists constantly do, because it doesn't fit with/contradicts their racist and capitalist-bootlicking bullshit (including social Darwinism and de-funding healthcare for "efficiency", and such…), is very different from opposing misuse/unethical use of science.

Also, denying science and claiming it's false is always done for unethical goals.

@joe I’m all for it. It’s just a pity Anthropic keeps their top-tier models behind a 'No Chinese Allowed' sign.
