    @GossiTheDog I'm always surprised by how supportive educational institutions are towards AI. I had expected them to be some of the most vocal critics.

      @GossiTheDog I know multiple people exactly like this woman, and FWIW, most of them are old.

      I'm old too, but I'm with the noisy grads.

            @GossiTheDog Just as with the industrial revolution, many will loose their jobs but many job categories will be created. The professional landscape will look very different in a most categories in 10 years from now and there are real opportunities to be acted upon right now. Adaptability is key here because It's not going to stop because people are afraid (with reason). If it gives an advantage to those weilding it, it will stick. All in all businesswise a whole lot will remain exactly the same.

              @GossiTheDog after this clip she says "I guess we've got a very bipolar topic here"

              I love that she apparently thought the cheers were because "AI is now a factor in our lives" rather than "remember how great it was a few years ago?"

              https://www.youtube.com/live/zwYkHS8jvSE?si=BlKlPqrvvKx8ww3X&t=4869

              She goes on to get booed a few more times by talking about how great it is that "AI capabilities are in the palm of our hand" and I guess this is what happens when chatgpt writes your speech and you forget how to adlib.

                    It’s not about age: it’s about naïveté.

                    @christianrickert @GossiTheDog I also remark that old people at the end of their careers are the most addict about this shit. It tells something.

                      @meuwese @lettosprey @GossiTheDog

                      Usefulness of AI depends on the use case:
                      People who understand both their problem and AI limitations may use it to their advantage. 🔨
                      People who neither understand their problem nor AI limitations sell snake oil. 🐍

                      @christianrickert @meuwese @lettosprey @GossiTheDog then you can introduce ethical and environnemental problems.

                      It never gets good.

                        @GossiTheDog Her smirk because she knows she has struck a chord is disturbing. She knows her career is about wrapped up so she's ok pushing whatever crap will help her get the best exit deal on to the next generation. Disgusting lot.
