    A reminder. Our politicians kept insisting we were winning the Vietnam War right up until we lost it.

      @arrrg
      I am still aghast that no heads rolled in the Joint Chiefs and below after $Billions were spent building up the Afghan Army over years and years, and it collapsed faster than a 7rump speech changes topics, and they claimed "surprise."

        @petergleick "The light at the end of the tunnel" that officials kept referring to turned out to be an oncoming train.

          @petergleick
          The US will have so many victories they'll spread over the planet. Soon it'll have victories in every content. Then the USA will even start having glorious victories on proud US soil. They'll get closer and closer to the capital and then trump will be able to admire his victories happening right outside his window.

            @petergleick It's the old principle: The attacker must vanquish, the defender need only survive.

              @oldhaapi @arrrg @petergleick
              Even "collapsed" is western propaganda.

              People seriously expected an army of muslim men to defend western values like democracy and womens rights against Islam. And they were surprised when those same men rejoined their own religion in the chaos that "we" left?

                I remember that 20 years after the fact former Secretary McNamara admitted that the Vietnam war had been a mistake.

                  Another reminder, Mr Gleick.
                  It may turn out that the stable genius behind Trump was Putin all along.
