    Also, TBT, NY city trash collection is pretty cheap: $2B budget, say average household size of 3, that is $750/household/year. In Napa I pay by size of bin (plus also compost + recyclable bins): A 35 gallon bin is $47.17/month, a 55 gallon bin is $72.34 a month.

      @ncweaver.skerry-tech.com Remember how many New Yorkers live in apartment buildings. The last place I lived in NYC was modest in size: six floors, 30 units—and it needed three containers, plus compost and recyclables. Now consider a high rise building.

        @ncweaver.skerry-tech.com Remember how many New Yorkers live in apartment buildings. The last place I lived in NYC was modest in size: six floors, 30 units—and it needed three containers, plus compost and recyclables. Now consider a high rise building.

        @SteveBellovin @ncweaver.skerry-tech.com If I recall correctly, whether residential trash collection is free in NYC is complicated. The general rule is residential is free (from DSNY), and commercial is private haulers. But sme residential buildings are classified as commercial for reasons no one understands and have to hire private haulers.
