@LitteRatty Welcome! Honestly don't worry about it, post what you want to post and chat when and if you want to chat. Most platforms punish you for not being active enough, but there's no such issue on here so just take your time

Lots of us love to see others making art, and as a big reader you've obviously picked a good server there, I'm sure you'll feel at home in no time!
@thegiddystitcher thank you for such a warm and encouraging welcome!

@suzannespirit Hello, nice to meet you! I'm still trying to figure out the community rules, so I don't know yet if it posting some art from time to time would be acceptable. Anyway, I invite you to visit my website
https://manufineart.com/ , I'm honored and delighted by your interest.I haven't read any of Guy Gabriel Kay's books, but I'm adding his name on my list and will research him in a moment.
@LitteRatty All sorts of art being posted. If there's content you think may offend your followers, you can add a Content Warning like "nudity" or "political" so they can consent to whether or not they see that.
Looking at your art though, it's perfectly safe. Post whatever you want, use CWs when you want to be considerate, use ALT text so that blind folks can enjoy, and let people use their filters as they please.
This link helped me with ALT text:
How To: Write Good Alt Text - Supercool
Adding useful alt text to images is one of the easiest ways to make your website more accessible. But it's not necessarily an easy thing to do well …

@LitteRatty Welcome to the fediverse.
It is a bit confusing at first, especially when you're used to "the algorithm" directing things (some good and some bad) your way. I see you've already got some suggestions about hashtags to start with, so I won't try to add to that, but they can be a good way to find individuals to follow.
I don't know if you'd be comfortable posting art here, but I'd be very interested in seeing some of your work.
Again, welcome, and best wishes here in the fediverse.
@DaleHagglund thank you for the welcome and for your interest, I'll post some art as soon as I finish answering this introduction post. (Wow, I wasn't expecting so many warm and kind people to respond to this one, my first!)

@LitteRatty This can be a great place. I hope it's a good home for you.
@ShaulaEvans thank you, I trust it will become one of my favorite places.
-
@LitteRatty You could try following hashtags for your interests. Over time, that will find you the people and accounts you're interested in.
#book, books, writer, author, writersLife, authorsLife, writingCommunity, fiction, historicalFiction, art, painting, oilPrinting, contemporaryArt, reading, readingList, etc pp, you get it. There's so much art!
@dasgrueneblatt Great suggestions for hashtags to follow, many thanks!

@BOOKHOUSE hi there!

-
@riggbeck thank you, that's exactly how I feel at this moment, like knocking at the door. Looking forward to entering the house .
You're welcome.

@LitteRatty hello and welcome! Lots of good advice in the thread! Following hashtags around subjects that interest you is a good way to find your people - # art # books # AmReading # history # bookstodon, and so on. Follow lots of tags and people to start with to populate your feed, you can always unfollow later. A top tip is to follow the marvellous @lisamelton, who will fill your timeline with a vast range of boosts. Hope you enjoy it here!
thank you so much! the hashtags are prefect, never thought "AmReading" could be one of them! I also started following @lisamelton - grateful for the recommandation.

@LitteRatty
Always happy to follow a new artist. Your paintings look amazing, too! What are you reading right now?@tuckerm thank you, I'm happy you like my work, this means a lot to me.
What am I reading now: I have just started the second volume of the Welsh Princes trilogy by Sharon Kay Penman - "Falls the Shadow". I was so immersed in the first book, at the point I had to take a break from the series and come back to reality. Reality was a bit too chaotic for me, so I found refuge in Hamnet, finished it two days ago and since last night I'm back in XIII century Wales.

Hello everybody,
I'm a bit lost here, coming from "traditional" social platforms. I have no idea how this works and to top it all I'm also too shy to enter people's conversations.So let me introduce myself: I'm a Romanian artist, I paint in oil and acrylic. I am also a voracious reader, always on the lookout for new books. I enjoy most of all historical ones - fiction and non fiction, classic literature is my comfort food, yet I'll not refuse a good mystery or thriller.
@LitteRatty welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing your art! Make sure to use Hashtags like # Art # painting # Illustration whatever fits best, so I will see it!
-
@LitteRatty My religion has Romanian roots, so I always think the world—and therefore Fedi—needs more Romanian influence. Welcome!
@VoiceofDuum here I am, bringing my small drop of influence to the Fedi

@redtailworks thank you, nice to meet such a warm community!

@LitteRatty Wow, you have a gazillion answers and I gave up trying to read all of them, so sorry if this is info you've already been given several times: As a shy person myself, my main interaction at the start was hitting the "favourite" button a lot. There are always posts telling new members that that button does nothing on here, because there's no algorithm, and that I should boost everything instead, but I didn't want to spam my followers with too many boosts, so I just stubbornly (1/2)

@LitteRatty stuck to my favourite favourite button. When people say you have to interact, don't feel pressured to do more than you want to do. Liking is interaction in my opinion. I spent a lot of time just lurking and observing the culture on here until I felt ready to jump into conversations, and I think that's okay too. (2/2)

@LitteRatty
Welcome to the Fedi! One way to meet people is browsing the #introduction tag and spreading the welcome love to other new folks. That helped me overcome my shyness here.@wordsmith thank you, indeed the warm welcome of the community is so encouraging! I'm surely going to greet newcomers too and help them feel at home in this place.

@LitteRatty
Welcome!There's a very active arts community on here, and lots of writers.
Highly recommend you explore and check out hashtags. Following hashtags is a great way to find people to follow, and to get your posts in front of other people
# AmReading is a good place to see what other readers are enjoying and share your own reads.
@JessMahler thank you.

@snoopy_jay oops, I thought my answers showed only to the respective correspondent, I apologize for flooding the thread with them. Still need to better understand interactions here.

@LitteRatty You didn't flood anything, I just usually read all answers under a post to ensure that I don't give an answer that's been given already. But your post went super viral for fedi standards, so I didn't manage to read them all and was apologizing for that.
I can see your answers if I want to, the visibility on here is complicated, yes, but you don't have to figure that out right away, I think.
