    Good morning Fedi friends!

    A routine reminder that I've been running a series of #blog posts - "a newbie's guide to #selfhosting with #YunoHost" - and so far I've published 5 articles:

    πŸ”— : https://blog.elenarossini.com/a-newbies-guide-to-self-hosting-with-yunohost/

Every week I receive messages from people mentioning how my guide helped them embark on their self-hosting journey. This makes me SO HAPPY, thank you!

I wonder if you have requests for future articles? Or do you think the series is now complete?

@_elena Pros and cons of YunoHost based setups, if YunoHost setups and docker containers can work together, how to behave if an app isn't on the catalog...
Maybe you (and we) can ask for contribution from other users to share experiences. I'm in the middle of my journey, experimenting totally

@elettrona thank you Elena. I have to admit I have been SUPER lucky with the apps I have installed. The first "lemons" I found were after 10 months of self-hosting and they were non-critical apps, so I simply moved on.

Yes maybe a blog post with testimonies from people... I'd love to have your take, I've been really inspired by your journey

@_elena Hi Elena, and thank you very much for your guide! Maybe an article about security?

@_elena I think it's important that owning our digital space, becomes friendly to beginners as well. Not like point-and-click passive monkeys, but community helping community.

@kiitoskai sure! a lot of people are scared of embarking on a self-hosting journey for this reason but by design YunoHost's installations are super secure... they disable root access and install fail2ban. Something I have done to increase my security is to change the default port (from 22 to something 5 digits) and now Fail2Ban is basically empty... I'll reach out to security experts to get extra tips

@_elena @elettrona I have to really choose and pick myself what to have on personal server and what to skip. Think talking about VPS vs hosting in your house and what your endgoal for server.
Like for now I have owncast and jellyfin as heavy hitters, qbitorrent and libretranslate. Also some server soft that I would rather not disclose as well.
Having my own fedi presence (except owncast) would be nice, but I fear for storage and cpu usage so rather be under someone else instead.

I had zero problems with installing most of it but fear of "getting too much attention for being targeted by bad actors" is still there.
So it will be interesting read on who used yunohost compared docker and to people who can manually install from scratch reading only docs. What they after, how much they have to learn beforehand and what their ideal setup looks like.

I read/saw that some buy dedicated mini pc for their homelab, others have big racks. I myself repurposed my old PC rather than having another desktop pc and monitor and barely use it. Though it does eat into electricity bill....

I'm not a yunohost user, but did see in the release notes that snac was recently added! https://apps.yunohost.org/app/snac

YunoHost has helped me make the jump from just tinkering with myself-hosted apps to actually *using* them. Thanks for writing these
