Depends on what you mean by fine. If you mean in an ethical sense, then no. If you mean in a practical sense, then also no.

@xgranade and if you mean fine as aesthetically pleasingly c.f. Fine arts, then also no.

@xgranade in an everything-on-fire-this-is-fine sense, perhaps

@xgranade I was discussing this earlier with someone.
If it wasn't a planet killing nazi machine, and it was more akin to code "autocomplete". Yeh, I don't think anyone would object.
Right, now, no, it's not "fine"

If only it were possible to keep industry from evaluating the usefulness of the LLM on its own merits. If merely by inhibiting self-identified leftists from discussing what they are, they could be put back in their cage, it would become a different world than the the one to where we are headed.

@xgranade tech debt at scale? The same 5 zero days like a boot on the neck forever?

@xgranade
I've seen so many people not realizing that programming is also hard work and to some degree an art form
you can't just say "LLM/diffusion assets are bad" and continue with "LLM code is fine" and expect it to make sense...

@xgranade Is there a way to make ethical LLM-assisted coding? Using chinese local open-weight models is more ethical than using ClosedAI ChatGPT? Or the only correct choice is to create ethical data collection, which pays its data contributors and then train LLM based on that?

@optozorax @xgranade If it's from China it is by definition not ethical.
