@coolcalmcollected this is how i trained my (now year in their tenure) new coworker
few years ago a different co-worker tried to have a meeting with me about "best practices” since she was appalled that i worked in response to how my managers worked (with a lot of personal variance) and not in a uniform way the way her managers did
conformity is just control prettied up
"we value all contributions" is bait for getting yourself pushed out of a job by sabotage from co workers
-
@autistics @filmfreak75 be yourself, our way

"be yourself
no, not like that" -

@coolcalmcollected they have discovered over the past few years that i am uniquely suited to the shit show that is my job
i’ve had people try to cover 1/4 of my job while on vacation and they are fried after a week of it
my therapist says “They like what you can do, just not how you do it”

nothing pleased me more than going back to pick up my last paycheck and seeing 4+ people trying to do the job I did by myself. I always asked my ex boss "do you miss me yet?" with a shit eating grin on my face. unfortunately with direct deposit this opportunity no longer exists.

@coolcalmcollected that happens a lot after i leave a job
phrases like "We had no idea how much you were doing” and “It's just not the same” are frequently said

@autistics #ActuallyAutistic as someone who works in an environment that is cult adjacent...
…meaning there is a preferred way and not doing things the preferred way is doing it the wrong way...
…this should be on everyone’s computer background
@filmfreak75@mastodon.social @autistics@fedigroups.social breaks my heart every time i see parents forcing their children to make eye contact. the times ive needed children to face me (because i can't hear what they're saying if they face away) i'll just say something like "hey can you talk to my ear?" and it works.

@aisling as Zoom world started a few years ago, i was not so subtly told i had to be on camera for all meetings, since “You need to be able to look people in the eyes during meetings”

that phrase, “forcing conformity,” it’s awful because people have to conform - but it’s worse that they clearly think they are forcing a conformism to something other than just force. Forced conformity means everyone must use force.
.
Means to an end they think, but the fucking means never end and simply grow and reproduce. They think force is consequence free magic, they think they can force anything, even peace and love and they can’t figure out why it doesn’t work. -

@aisling @filmfreak75 @autistics Many years ago (long before I knew I was autistic) I went to a lecture that stuck with me (and still does) on autism. She had a few examples of specific people/scenes, from her life as a teacher.
In one instance a child needed to get something mathematical explained to them, and she went "look at me closely" and started explaining. And at the end of the explanation, kid had absolutely no idea what had been said *but* knew that the teacher had a tiny spot on their right eyelid. Because they'd looked at her closely, as she told them.
Another (not related to eye contact) was a student that she had to expand the explanation of "I'm busy teaching" several times, because the things the student saw as important for there to be teachings/class going on weren't always there. Like, sometimes when she taught there was a projector ... but not always. Sometimes the desks were in a row, other times in groups. Etc.

now that i push back on it so much, i’m in the phase of being actively “othered” as a form of retaliation to try to get me back in line
it's not working and some are not happy about that

Yeah, I’m stuck right there.
.
The intentions aren’t personal and aren’t all today, but they’re there. it’s group intent, and a multigenerational function and they’re all bred for this denial, they will not analyze themselves.
.
I feel like I’ve figured it out, but I cannot figure out how to make them realize that they need to know. -
