    @EUCommission

thats 1% of their 12 BILLION EU trade volume.

nothing for a company that’s actively working on destroying EU markets

you should ensure each single package from China must go through full custom inspections AND the receiver has to pay the effort, that would be much more efficient

@EUCommission This is skewed justice, considering the EU doesn't sponsor education in #BehavioralScience, where there is the greatest need for equitable upgrades.

You can't place 100% of the onus in holding and distributing power, on the wealthiest 1%, and leave 99% destitute of vital infrastructure - of which ignorance, is the greatest enemy.

Yes, throughout history, historians have been correct: ignorance truly is the ultimate enemy. So propagating the best education, Behavioral Science, is one of the root causes of an EU - or any other leadership role.

      Now get to work.

@EUCommission What are the chances of

        (a) any of that fine ever being paid
        (b) the perp changing its behaviour in consequence

        ?

        Hello @TimWardCam!
Temu has until 28 August 2026 to submit an action plan to remedy the breach of its risk-assessment obligations. Failure to comply with the non-compliance decision may lead to periodic penalty payments. You can find more information here: https://link.europa.eu/pCcFjv

@EUCommission Man, so many comments to this positive news are so quick to point out that the EU should do much more and that this isn't good enough... I think this is a great step and it sets a good precedent.

I saw a straight up Nazi flag prominently displayed as a hot selling item when I looked at that site once. Not a good sign.

This is a rhetorical question, isn't it?

Ofc the @EUCommission sold us citizens and our rights to the US including the US tech fascists.

They'll again pretend to act but in fact nothing much will happen.

@EUCommission that's like a quarter of their yearly revenue? that's a pretty okay fine compared to the usual slap on the wrist for conpanies like google and microsoft

edit: i got my numbers all wrong and it's probably just another slap on the wrist kinda deal..

That's the first fine. It's a percentage that can be come higher the more often they will be fined.

@EUCommission Nice, but the fine is low and they don't even care because their main target is not to sell for profit but to collect user data. They will even sell with loss as long they get private info from buyers. It's much cheaper way to get them, even with fines.
