Snake.
I had to move this off a trail with a long stick this weekend.
2.5ish feet is what I would guess. It was across the trail, unwilling to leave on its own, and I wasn't stepping over it.

It attracted a water moccasin and I was so visually impaired without my glasses that I almost dove in on top of it. Mom scooped it up in a long-handled sieve and threw it over the fence.

I can only imagine bc the alternative experience would kill meI walked past it but enough space not to rattle him and had my husband get rid of him.
