Shortly after 9/11, we had dinner with my husband's parents at their house. We were discussing the attack when my MIL blurted out "You know why they're like that don't you? (meaning Muslims) It's because they're descendants of (the biblical) Cain".

I choke laughed because I seriously thought she was joking. I looked at my husband and FIL and they both were intently studying the green beans on their plates.

So instead of letting that nonsense go, I said "how do you mean? Like what"?

She straightens up like she's about to learn me something and says "they're violent and murderous. You know". I told her that no, I don't know and that absolutely heinous things have been done, and are still being done in the name of Christ.

I then asked her where she learned such a thing.

She answered that she had done an entire Bible study on the subject.

I absorbed that for a moment and replied "Seems to me if you wanted to learn about Muslims, you're reading the wrong book".

She turned a few colors, dropped the subject, and never discussed religion with me again.
