️@itsfoss you left out all the cursing

But most users don’t want to have to choose between different distributions or change any settings.
They just want to turn it on and have it work. It’s the same with Android phones.
Very few people use different launchers or even know that launchers exist.@Doppellhelix @itsfoss Which is sad because once you chose your Mint-like distro you launch it and everything works like a charm. Actually most distros do. I use Arch btw and it depends on your DE but in most cases it will work great out of the box. That's the beauty of it: if you want to go the nerd way, you can. If you don't, you can too.

I like Linux. I‘ve started to use it and I‘m still at the beginning of the journey.
I took my old MacBook and installed Ubuntu. A hell trip. Drivers for WiFi and Camera were not available. I had to buy an external USB WiFi stick and to search for the drivers. The terminal became my best friend.
Later I got a new kernel and had a kernel conflict. The next trip to hell.
I understand why this problems occurred. But it doesn’t match the 'easy & fast' statement.

️You forgot "Kernel panic! Unhandled exception in interrupt!" (which has been happening to me a lot for the last week or so.)

️@itsfoss true. It especially breaks when you starts dreaming about making it "beautiful".
I use arch, it works as I want, but as I install a DE, it done for. Maybe I become too ambitious at times with it.

Since than I know.

️@itsfoss And people actually enjoy using the terminal once they are used to it.

@strght @itsfoss I've just started to use it and there's things I like and things I don't.
I'm used to doing some PC support tasks. I can handle BIOS tasks and firmware updates, etc. Mint wasn't *easy* to install on my machine but I got there. I love the interface and I love the lack of ads.
But my mouse is too slow. This is a world of pain to fix.

️@itsfoss Been running linux for all of my adult life, never once had an install corruption that wasn't directly my fault, one of many reasons to use stable release OSs like Debian.

Very few people use different launchers or even know that launchers exist. And if we continue to capitulate to those people Linux will turn into MacOS or Windows.
If you keep the stock rom on and android phone its easy to use, if you flash an aftermarket one you may encounter issues.
The same is true for keeping OEM windows on your device vs using linux.
If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen.
