One of my 3D printers just *majorly* malfunctioned during a print… the toolhead front cover fell off, it made a loud noise, then completely shattered the front tempered glass!
The glass went everywhere.
Into the air, on the shelf. On the floor… in my *hoodie pocket*Thankfully I’m okay.
I’m safe. Cats are safe.
But it’s safe to say I’ll have some production delays…FML.

@britt !!!! Oh no!

@britt !!!! Oh no!
@scott yeah. Big bad. I am looking at the machine and cannot yet determine what happened. There is no visible clog, no obvious malfunction.

@stephaniepixie
I’m just glad I’m ok and didn’t get any of the flying glass in my eyes or skin. I’m still in shock. Like wtf.

@britt That’s scary. Time to wear protective eyewear as a precaution?

@stephaniepixie I do wear eye protection (full coverage) when I’m working with the prints/magnets/removing support materials.
But this happened in a fully functional enclosed machine with the front door shut. Like, what?!
I’ve never ever heard of this happening. I already submitted a support ticket.

@Alison
thank you. Me too. I’m fortunate. Putting a tempered glass on a 3D printer is… likely not the best idea by the manufacture. But, it’s for ‘looks’. Acrylic would be much safer, imho.

@britt "Production delays" yeah I think so

Seriously though, I hope you can get production up and running again soon. I'm glad your cats are okay too.

@britt
Glad you and your cats are okay. I replaced the glass door on the printer I bought for my library with an acrylic one because I had a dresser if what would happen if a kid (or adult) bumped it or opened it too far. I didn't consider it breaking from the inside! -
