My German has gotten rustier and rustier since my mom died nearly 10 years ago.

My German has gotten rustier and rustier since my mom died nearly 10 years ago. At that point, she was my last living German-speaking relative. It is getting harder for me to read and forget hearing it at this point.
Anybody out there have interesting and not too heavy German language first Fedi folks they follow? Bonus points if they don’t mind interacting with someone whose German language skill sucks?
I helped quite a few refugees with learning german, and yes, it is complicated
If you have any questions, just ask.

The rules are awful, but the exceptions are worse! -

@lerxst
Do you like cartoons? There are some very funny German cartoonists in the Fediverse, where you can train your German in a funny way by reading the cartoons.
e.g. @fernandez @ralphruthe -

@lerxst In most interactions I’ve had in German on Mastodon, people seem to have put up with my incorrect German. Less so with my opinions.

@lerxst erzähl mir eine interessante Geschichte.. Zum Beispiel über deine Familie. Wo kamen die Eltern deiner Mutter ursprünglich her?

@lerxst I'm trying to learn but it's my first ever second language and it's a complex one as you know. I've been reading the zeitung and seeing how far I can get before reaching for the translation, but that's basically doom scrolling.
Btw not in any way what you were asking but best German teachers online I've found so far -

@lerxst German TV channels are easily available online; maybe it can help.
@letscallhimsteve good call. I don’t have much time for solo TV, but I wonder if I just have it on in the background while I’m working maybe my ears will at least refamiliarize with the cadence and words.

@lerxst Since I've stopped going to work in Germany, my German has gone from very bad to even worse, I mean it's still not as bad as my Welsh.. So I'm going to hop on and follow some of the other suggestions in the replies below.
@PeterMLittle the more the merrier!
