    @moz @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite

    London. As per usual.

    I cycle all year. But London - most of England really - doesn't get cold enough to make it too difficult or dangerous just uncomfortable and definitely not preferred .

    @moz @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite

    And seeing moz's post above from the land down under - it definitely doesn't get too hot to cycle here either. I was in France for 2025 heatwave and cycling in middle of the day was unadvisable and very unpleasant .

      Q1. Where are you posting from today? If you're a #FairWeatherCyclist what's the start of #CyclingSeason? A particular calendar date? A certain temperature? 40 days and 40 nights of no snow?

        @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite A1. Posting from the waterlogged ruins of Portland, OR today, where the weather is wet and gray.

        For my daily commute, cycling season starts when the rains end. Which is ironic, given I have head to toe rain gear and could ride to work in the winter.

        But the Ryan who buys rain guy and the Ryan who has to be out the door before 8am in said rain gear are two different people.

        @yantor3d @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite If it helps I always hate the idea of riding in the rain way more than the actually riding in the rain part.

          @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite A1: Sydney, Australia.

          I'm definitely a fair weather cyclist, which means I cycle year round in Sydney. Or Melbourne where I've also lived. I haven't ever lived somewhere I can't do that.

            @muel @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite Fair, but how long is your ride? Mine is 12 miles - about an hour in the rain at e-bike speeds. That's a lot of getting rained on to endure...

              @yantor3d @ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite only 5 miles but can be 45 minutes on the way home due to the 600 feet of elevation gain. But by that point I don't have a lot of other options for getting home...

                    A1. Posting from #fabulous, if a tad nippy at the moment, #VancouverIsland.

                    A1.a. I am, generically, a #FairWeatherCyclist; the term refers more strongly to **weather**. During active weather I am likely sitting inside (e.g. scrolling caturday pics.)

                    I am fine riding in freezing weather when it's dry, hopefully sunny, and little wind. Precipitation, adverse breezes, and fog are my nemises.

                    On the #LeftCoast / #WetCoast. <sigh>

                      A1. Albany, New York, as usual. I commute year-round and occasionally do longer rides in the midst of winter, and my bike and gear display clear evidence of all the time spent out in the "slop" season, sigh.

                        A1. Posting from Ann Arbor, MI. I'm a cold weather bicyclist (maybe 40F is my low temp) but not an ice and snow bicyclist - even though my winter bike has studded tires, I just have a real hard time wanting to go sideways on the ice.

                        this year the first tentative outing was on 2026-02-15 and by 2026-02-27 I was able to start covering some ground.

                          A1) I'm posting from deep in the Coconino National Forest, at about 7000 ft elevation.

                          I'm a #FairWeatherCyclist, but also a wanderer so year-round I tend to go to places where the weather is nice. If it's too cold I go south and lower elevation, if it's too hot I go north and higher.
