    Service members are no longer allowed to wear their military uniforms off-base. They have to drive to base in civilian clothing and then change once they arrive.

    Our service members aren't safe in their own country anymore.

    What the actual fuck.

      @digitalsnow Not surprising.

      Back during DESERT STORM our Spring '91 semester of ROTC we were told to wear civilian clothes to class, lab, and on-campus training for several weeks. And at the academy, cadets were 'strongly encouraged' to take leave in civilian clothes and for the upperclassmen (who could leave campus in civvies) were asked to swallow their pride and be open to escorting younger cadets in/around the walkout leave area, mall, etc. if they were in uniform.

        @rickf My brother even said he only wears his "uniform" (work clothes) while at work. Otherwise he's in shorts.

          @digitalsnow @rickf Trivia time: one of the reasons the first McDonald’s drive-thru was built was because it was at a restaurant near a military base, and regs (possibly unique to the local base) did not allow servicemembers to get out of their cars in uniform when off-duty and off-base. This was during the Vietnam War.
