I remain of the opinion that you shouldn’t design a GUI toolkit until you have tried writing a simple DTP program (line drawing and text blocks with rich text flowing between them) in OpenStep.

You don’t have to reimplement OpenStep. You don’t even need to copy it closely, there are lots of things that are a product of their time and could be done better.
But please, please, please stop building things that are so much worse than 1994 technology that ran nicely on a 33 MHz CPU with 8 MiB of RAM.
