@cabel I don’t remember ever seeing a dual-ended 30 pin cable back then, so how did this work? The other end of iPhone/iPod cables was USB, FireWire, or analog AV.

@glyph @cabel Whatever it is, that port must go to a dock connector that the phone sits on.

@thatKomputerKat @cabel there was a crazy amount of build-out in hotels around 30-pin devices and then nobody ever updated anything. I don't think I've ever seen a hotel with a lightning dock, let alone usb-c

@glyph @cabel Yeah... that's how the original 30pin iphone and ipad docks apple sold were made. plug 30 pin cable into the back of the dock and slap the device on the connector sticking out the top.

@cabel this implies the existence of a cable with the old 30 pin connector on both ends. i wanna see it

@thatKomputerKat @cabel the thing that's confusing me here is the idea that whatever this thing is with an iPhone dock on top of it, it's not self-contained. Is the idea that you are bringing your *own* host device, yet want to use the hotel's infrastructure for some reason? Why would it have a LAN port but also work that way?

@tk @ezio @cabel Wouldn't you need it to be a gender changer (male-male cable) as well for this setup?

@cabel wait, what is the use case for that port? Is it for people who want to play video but they want to play it through an iPod A/V connector?
