Standout here is the "Flipper" shirt. Not a band shirt, but a shirt for the 1964 tv show about a boy who is friends with a dolphin

Need to get more non-band shirt rocker graphic T's. Like how the Ramones would just wear shirts of random stuff they liked like Yoohoo or Bazooka Joe or whatever. Saw a video of Megadeth in the 80s and the drummer is just wearing a shirt with the Batman logo on it.

@SaraElbourne When they were a band there weren't so many punk bands' shirts to wear. It's legit pretty rare to see old bands wearing other band's shirts. Lots of early hardcore bands wore dress clothes all the time.

Was it competition like did they see other bands as competing with them so they didn't want to make them seem cool (hope not)? Lack of posturing/owning the coolest shirt? Maybe bands didn't make so many shirts? Just fashion? there is a zine in this somewhere for someone else to write. Maybe our local shirt head @sore_mind needs to do a research project

Personally I rarely wear a band shirt, and if I do there is pretty much always a personal connection, but I know I am a weirdo in that respect, and I still have a closet full of band shirts.

@VanisleJay @SaraElbourne @sore_mind I submit this image of Heresy ft. Sudden Impact shirt. I like seeing the homemade band shirts people made in the 80s when there were enough bands to like other bands but they maybe didn’t actually have merch. Comforting when I see it was a normal thing to just write minor threat on a thrift store shirt or whatever. Love the UK & US punk thing to write/paint the band name onto a button-up shirt

@SaraElbourne @VanisleJay I’ve been wearing shirts with political messages on stage for over a decade now. Believe survivors of sexual assault, protect trans kids, Black Lives Matter, etc…
