As the UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance in 2019, Mark Carney described climate change as “the world’s greatest existential threat.”

As the governor of the Bank of England, he started the Net Zero Banking Alliance.

But now he's the prime minister of a petrostate.

"Oilsands production now accounts for 31 per cent of the total Canadian emissions. "

"Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government is quietly developing a national electricity strategy to be released early this year.

The goal is to “harness clean energy” and to drive greenhouse gas emissions down by decarbonizing transportation, buildings and heavy industry, while boosting economic growth and addressing affordability concerns."

"Carney, after all, isn’t just trying to diversify Canada’s trade relationships away from the United States. He’s also quietly laying the groundwork for a more comprehensive embrace of an electricity-first economy, one that’s already being built in places like China and Europe. He is, in other words, skating to where that infernal puck is going, even if he doesn’t want to say as much out loud just yet."
