On this day in 1866...
️ Mumu passed away at the Bath Institution for the Blind and Deaf.
Born in Sierra Leone, Mumu’s real name is unknown. As a young child, she was kidnapped by slavers and put on board a slave ship.
️ The ship was then rescued by the West Africa Squadron.
When she was about 11, she was invited to study at the Bath Institution, where she thrived. For more, see my books on Somerset.
