Auffällig ist auch, dass bei #GrapheneOS-Diskussionen im Fediverse auffällig neue und leere Accounts auftauchen, die dem offiziellen GOS-Account zur Seite springen.

Ich bin selbst GrapheneOS-User. Aber dass euch die miserable Kommunikation langsam um die Ohren fliegt, ist kein Wunder, wenn man wirklich alles und jeden öffentlich angeht.

Manche von euch finden, wir sollten hässliche Geschichten einfach totschweigen. Andere wiederum freuen sich alles mitnehmen zu können, auch was uns allgemein auf dem Herzen liegt, uns beschäftigt. Und das ist in Ordnung! Wir empfinden Aufklärung als einen der Grundpfeiler unserer Arbeit, das umfasst selbstverständlich die technische Seite... aber mitunter auch die ethische, vor allem wenn uns etwas direkt betrifft.

Etwas worüber die meisten sich allerdings einig sind, ist, dass die Art und Weise, wie wir diese Aufklärung betreiben, Verbesserungspotenzial aufweist. Das kann ich auch nachvollziehen. Bei längeren Stücken wird es schnell unübersichtlich und chaotisch, da die standardmäßige Zeichenbeschränkung einen schnell in die Enge treibt. Entweder sollten wir diese Beschränkung rauspatchen oder/und uns ein anderes Medium suchen und dieses bei Bedarf verlinken.

Dieser Gedankengang steht nun schon etwas länger im Raum, aber ich dachte es ist vielleicht hilfreich, wenn ich hier noch einmal erwähne, dass sich da auch etwas tut. Schön zu lesen, dass viele andere hier auch zu diesem Entschluss gekommen sind.

Das es auch als "reguläres" OS genutzt werden kann und soll kommt mir zu kurz.
Die wenigen Screenshots auf der Website zeigen nur barebones UI mit schwarzem Hintergrund und können für weniger tech-affine Menschen, welche einfach nur ein entgoogeltes OS suchen, irritierend sein.
Der Eindruck entsteht, dass es nur für Leute sei, die anonymer sein MÜSSEN statt es "nur" zu wollen.

In any case, it seems that Google is increasingly restricting the AOSP project, which forms the basis for developments such as aftermarket ROMs like GOS. So we really need to decide how to proceed from here. Most of us here want a FOSS environment, but at the moment we rely heavily on Google for that.

Google does not care at all about privacy, and every PlayStore app is a potential privacy nightmare. GOS protects you against Google, but only very limited against other apps.

If you use F-droid only, fine. But otherwise iOS is a better choice - at least for me.

And even then it is good to tell what they are doing good instead of fingerpointing the others.

That's a good outcome, since change - and realizing what might need to change and why and then doing it - often involve a lot of effort and can even be quite painful.

Glad GOS can avoid this since they already got it down pat.

From the looks of it, it has been very effective. Ive seen a lot of praise for avoiding the corporate slop and saccharine nonsense, and many like GOS telling it how it is quickly and effectively. Anyone who has ever been on a support call, being bounced around for several hours, can appreciate that approach lol.

The feedback on the GOS communication style stands though.

I'd offer, as a last thought, the consideration whether, even if all was/is accurate and entirely correct, it is an *effective* style that achieves the intended outcomes.

And Im not following your assumption. It wouldnt make sense to say everyone is part of the same campaign. Its not one big campaign but a few moderate ones that spread misinformation that ends up inevitably making innocent people accidentally complicit when they might not have been otherwise. A lot of it isnt organized or planned but is still harmful all the same. Unfortuately, much of it is organized.

Im sorry you had that experience. People who act elitist are warned and/or banned, since everyone has to start somewhere and using GOS does not entitle anyone to act above others.
