But for tablets/touch and Wayland my setup consists of @gnome plus "dash to panel", "ArcMenu", "Desktop icons NG" extensions - fantastic. Those plus Ubuntu tiling assistant, Ubuntu app indicators and an honorable mention to the system monitor (the one by @fmuellner). Someone should honestly make a desktop with those defaults.

Conversely Canonical maintains and ships like four extensions to maintain their vision of the desktop.
