It’s routinely transported by boat (low footprint) but it does require temperature control. Common alternatives like rapeseed and sunflower take up way more land. It’s pretty tough to find a more eco friendly product than palm oil at the scale people consume oil by. All of its replacements require more land which potentially results in more deforestation.
