It’s routinely transported by boat (low footprint) but it does require temperature control. Common alternatives like rapeseed and sunflower take up way more land. It’s pretty tough to find a more eco friendly product than palm oil at the scale people consume oil by. Its negative reputation actively harms the environment.

The farming of it and the methods of farming (monoculture) are putting other species at sognofocant risk plus requires transportation around the world.

Getting behind such distructive cultivation whereas we can produce oils locally without murdering orangutans, other rare/at-risk primates, birds, plants, insects...

All of its replacements require more land which potentially results in more deforestation. Ironically, boycotting palm oil is *harmful* to the environment because of what you have to use in its place.

For the benefit of those in the USA not willing to become vegetarians, even a modest reduction in beef consumption can have a significant effect:

- One meat-free day/week frees up about 90 million acres (~10% of total U.S. agricultural land)
- Cutting meat consumption by half frees up 300 million acres

And add the benefits of reduction in methane production and other pollutants…

(Even substituting pork/poultry makes a substantial difference.)
