Ordinary people are trapped by corporate social media and will find it very difficult to leave regardless of how their data is mined.

My local community lives in that corporate owned space. Cut yourself off from it and you cut yourself off from your community.

And sometimes I find that people are so tone deaf as to imagine "just leaving" is that easy. Simple, perhaps, but not easy. We need community. To leave an established community in hopes that you may get accepted by another one isn't a very comforting promise.

If we want people to leave corporate spaces, then maybe the onus should be on us to make them feel like they are welcome and belong.
